Benamor is under 5 minutes by car (1.3 km), or a 15 minute walk from the apartment. Henry Cotton designed it and it opened in 2000: 18 holes, par 71, on rolling ground above Conceição with views to the sea and the hills. It is the most forgiving of the six and the shortest, at 5,497 m from the white tees.
Online green fees are €103 in high season (16 February to 15 May and 16 September to 30 November), €95 in mid season, and €59 to €66 in December, January and the summer months. For long stays, Benamor sells packages of 20 rounds for €1,200, 30 for €1,650 and 40 for €2,000.
Clubs, trolleys, electric trolleys and buggies are for hire, and the driving range has 16 bays.
Quinta de Cima is about 10 minutes by car (4 km). It is one of two courses at the same club as Quinta da Ria, both designed by Rocky Roquemore, and the longer and more demanding of the pair at 6,586 m from the back tees, par 72.
High season green fees were about €120 when last published (2023). Ask the club for current rates and for deals that combine both courses.
Quinta da Ria is about 10 minutes by car (5 km). It opened in 2002: 18 holes, par 72, tree lined and open parkland on rolling ground, with sea views and no housing around the course. Where2Golf rates its practice facilities as excellent.
The club asks for a handicap certificate: 28 or lower for men, 36 or lower for women. Green fees were about €120 in high season when last published (2023), and clubs can be hired.
Monte Rei is about 20 minutes by car (13 km), inland from Vila Nova de Cacela. The North Course is a Jack Nicklaus design from 2007: 18 holes, par 72, with water in play on 11 holes and long drives between some of them, so a shared buggy is part of the green fee. Green fees are €75 from late February to mid April and from mid September to the end of October, and €45 from late May to mid September. Clubs, trolleys and buggies are for hire.
Castro Marim Golfe is about 25 minutes by car (20 km). Terry Murray laid out 27 holes in three loops of nine, the Grouse, the Atlantic and the Guadiana, through hills and pine trees; the club opened in 2001. The Grouse loop is the most open, with generous fairways and greens.
Green fees start at €82 booked online. Ask the club about club hire when you book.
About 30 minutes away, near Ayamonte, Isla Canela has two courses: Isla Canela Links, rebuilt and reopened in 2019 beside the Guadiana estuary, and the Old Course, which is flat and easy to walk. Green fees start at about €65, and both clubs hire out clubs.
Spain is one hour ahead of Portugal, so a 10:00 tee time there is 09:00 in Cabanas.

Club hire, or bring your own
